Gary’s Apple Crumble Recipe
Ingredients
For the Filling:
4 large (6 medium) red sweet apples (Gala, Fuji, or Pink Lady), peeled, cored, and sliced
1 tsp (5ml) ground cinnamon
½ tsp (2ml) ground ginger
3 tbsp (45ml) granulated sugar
Zest of 1 lemon
Juice of 1 lemon
1 tbsp (15ml) butter (for par-cooking).
For the Crumble Topping:
½ cup (100g) granulated sugar.
1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour.
A pinch of salt.
6 tbsp (85g) cold butter, diced.
½ cup (50g) oat-based muesli.
Instructions
Preheat the Oven:
Set your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a baking dish lightly with butter (optional).Prepare the Filling:
Heat a skillet over medium heat and melt the butter.
Add the sliced apples, lemon zest, juice, cinnamon, ginger, and granulated sugar.
Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are softened but not mushy.
Transfer the apple mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
Make the Crumble Topping:
In a bowl, combine sugar, flour, and salt. Add the cold diced butter.
Rub the butter into the dry ingredients using your fingertips or a pastry cutter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Stir in the oat-based muesli for texture.
Assemble:
Evenly distribute the crumble topping over the apples.Bake:
